Hey guys! I fell across this great website/blog and normally don't get involved in all the craziness that exists on the web about breeders vs breeders vs puppy buyers vs Godzilla. With my two litters coming up and the inquires starting already (thanks for the interest to those eager parties!), I thought it would be a good time to post some info about responsible breeding (also as known as, you're paying HOW much for your puppy?!) and expectations puppy buyers/breeders should have for each other.
The main thing is communication between the parties as well as realistic but flexibly goals and knowing where those boundaries are. Contracts are a wonderful tool but should also help outline guidelines for each party so no one is disappointed. If you really find it important to do a specific something with your puppy, the time to mention it is BEFORE you fall in love and take the dog home. I have been very very happy with placing my puppies and while my technique has changed significantly over the past ten years, I definitely feel comfortable in the way my "system" works. The topics on this website mirror a lot of ways I feel about breeding, showing, and placing pups, especially the part about "you're getting a puppy for free, but buying ME and my expertise and desire to help you succeed with your puppy."
